Were you Conned by Comcast Cable?

Since the early 1990s all TVs and VCRs have been cable ready.

This means that most Comcast customers do not need to pay for a cable box or remote control to receive basic cable service.*  Comcast has rented cable boxes and remote controls to thousands of customers who really didn't need them.  Comcast charged as much as $5 per month for each cable box in a home, allowing them to reap large revenues from these unnecessary charges.

*The Cable box is required for customers who receive on-demand or premium service (e.g. HBO, Showtime, etc.).  The Cable box also is required for customers who receive any level of cable service in Philadelphia.
